About

Legend Saigon Hotel - Ho Chi Minh City

Legend Saigon Hotel sits in a lively alley off Pham Ngu Lao Street, the centre of Ho Chi Minh City's backpacker district. The Notre Dame Cathedral, built in the 1880s, is a 5-minute drive away, and the green expanse of Tao Dan Sports Center District 1 Park is just a short walk. It's a compact property with 14 rooms and a lounge bar on site, and Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Rooms range from a single economy room to a family room with two double beds, and several open onto a garden view. Each room has air conditioning, a shower, and a fireplace, while the triple room adds a balcony. The atmosphere is more guesthouse than hotel: a relaxed lounge, a kitchen serving breakfast, and staff who treat visitors like friends.

In brief

What works, what to weigh

+

Strengths

4 reasons to book
  • Staff praised for genuine helpfulness — Most guests highlight booking tours, flights, trains, and airport pickups at better prices than nearby agencies, plus friendly, family-like service.
  • Clean and well-kept rooms — Rooms and bathrooms frequently described as spotless and well-maintained, with several noting the property feels new.
  • Central backpacker location — A short walk from Ben Thanh Market, bars, and restaurants, with easy access to buses across Vietnam, and close to the park and cathedral.
  • Good value for money — Breakfast included in the rate and prices noted as cheaper than other hostels in the area, with several guests praising the cost-to-quality ratio.

Worth weighing

4 to weigh
  • Mixed opinions on the experience — While most reviews are positive, a few guests were underwhelmed, and one called the hotel 'awful'. Ratings for location and overall experience vary from 5 to 9.8 out of 10.
  • Located down an alley — The entrance is in an alley off Pham Ngu Lao, which adds to the local feel but may not suit everyone; security is noted as being good, but the setting is a trade-off for some.
  • Small property — With only 14 rooms, the hotel is intimate but can feel limited in terms of facilities and availability, especially for larger groups.
  • Basic amenities — Amenities are functional rather than luxurious: no pool, gym, or spa, and rooms feature simple furnishings. The lounge bar is the main extra.

“Absolutely fantastic. The room was lovely and had everything I needed; comfy bed, great en-suite, fridge, TV, balcony and a good free breakfast. Spotlessly clean and looked new, and security was great even though it's in an alley. The hosts were very helpful and nice, and they booked a tour and flight tickets for us at good prices. The airport pickup was excellent. Location was great, just a 3-minute walk to bars, shops and Ben Thanh market. I highly recommend it — I have no negatives.”

“Loved my stay at My My. The lounge was perfect for hanging out and meeting new people. Lots of solo travellers, and the price is great for Vietnam. The rooms were nice and the bathrooms were clean. I met some really cool people and had a wonderful time. I'd definitely recommend staying here if you're in Ho Chi Minh City.”

“Good hotel if you're travelling alone and want to sleep in a dormitory or room. It's very cheap, and breakfast is included. The family running it is very nice and will help you with anything: tours, translation, information.”

8.3Verified guest

“Good clean hostel with free activities and lots of travel advice. The staff were so helpful and keen to make sure you settled in. The organised trips to the Mekong Delta floating market and the open bus ticket for around Vietnam were well worth it.”
